A distant detail of painting in progress
It is Tuesday and my larger painting of ”Rainy Day by the Sea” has been “resting” since last Thursday. The long Easter weekend has come to an end and I have a long list of petty tasks to do. But first one must paint don’t you think?
Here is a 3 x 5 inch distant detail from the 16 x 20 inch painting I am working on. It was never intended to be viewed with such up-close scrutiny but I like doing this sometimes. The marks of paint only lightly suggest their subjects leaving lots of room for our imaginations.

Terrill, it’s so interesting to look at your painting in this way. A multitude of images came quietly tumbling out. There is a young child resting on the rocks, a suggestion of wings, maybe angelic. A woman in long robes and Norse like head dress, holding a staff, coming over a hill. And so much more. I’ts like looking at the clouds and seeing the universe in that moment. How lovely!

Terrill – I think it’s a sea wall that has botanicals at the base — possibly rising up higher on the right-hand side. Now that you’ve piqued our curiosity – hurry up!
Maybe tomorrow Laurie – I think maybe tomorrow I shall be able to show you the whole painting. Can you wait that long?

Ummm, I like this a lot. Rich, full-bodied, earthy, strong. Yes indeed I like this.
Just about to put up the full completed painting Alison. I think you will find it has this same full-bodied earthy quality.
I love looking at a painting like this so close up… there are so many things to be found in such colorful & expressive brush strokes. A tree, rocks, a face, flowers, etc. Thank you for sharing. xoxo
